Welcome to the Wayland Boosters web site
The Wayland Boosters is a non-profit
organization that started over 35 years ago to:
- Support and encourage the athletic teams of
Wayland High School, freshman, junior varsity and varsity, in all
phases of inter-scholastic competition;
- Recognize and reward excellence in sports
including those attributes of character, team spirit and fair
play;
- Emphasize the development of leadership,
sportsmanship and physical and mental well being as the primary
benefit of competition versus winning or losing.
WHAT DOES BOOSTERS DO ?
Our members plan and participate in a number of
activities to achieve these goals. We
- Organize and host the season-ending sports banquets to recognize the
dedication and hard work of Wayland High School's athletes and coaches;
- Provide pins and Wayland H.S. jackets
to reward those athletes who have competed at the varsity
level;
- Acknowledge excellence by giving
specific awards to three athletes in each sport, The Booster Award, the
Hal Barnett Unsung Hero Award, and the Buzz Bowers Sportsmanship
Award
- Purchase needed equipment for
specific teams and also fund larger projects that benefit the overall
athletic program. Examples include an electronic time
clock for the swim teams, free weights for the football
team, and a contribution towards a new wrestling mat. The
renovation of the trainer's room and the purchase of new storage
cabinets for team uniforms and equipment are two recent capital
projects.
HOW DOES BOOSTERS FUND ITS
PROGRAMS?
We can only succeed with financial support from
members, Wayland residents and other interested people!
- We run an annual membership campaign
every fall. A contribution of as little as $25 will make you a Wayland
Booster and help support athletics. Over one-half of our budget comes from
membership.
- In the fall, we run a golf
tournament with the help of area merchants and other sponsors. Players
contribute by paying a registration fee.

Boosters also helps the process to improve our
athletic fields by providing improvements from our capital fund.
